ASL Interpreters

Graham Staffing is pleased to provide sign language interpreting services for our DC, Maryland and Virginia clients. We offer experienced and enthusiastic interpreters who are dedicated to bridging the gap between the deaf and the hearing communities. Our interpreting services are available for your government, healthcare, education, religion and entertainment needs. A Graham Interpreter understands the importance of professionalism and provides the ethical and courteous service that has made Graham a staffing leader in the Washington DC metro area. Our primary objective is to accurately assess our clients’ needs and complement them with the ideal interpreter.  Our Clients include the Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown Hospital, US Kids, the Department of Defense, the Department of Treasury and Department of Justice.
Graham Staffing offers the following sign language interpretations:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) is comparable in complexity and expressiveness to spoken languages; it is not a form of English. It has its own distinct grammatical structure which must be mastered in the same way as the grammar of any other language. ASL differs from spoken language in that it is visual rather than auditory and is composed of precise hand shapes and movements.
  • Pidgin Signed English (PSE) is a term that refers to a contact language or blended form of English and ASL. This form is often used when Deaf people and hearing people attempt to communicate. Pidgin Signed English is very individualistic and varies from person to person. Most often, prefixes and suffixes, plurals and verb tenses are not signed in Pidgin Signed English.
  • Tactile/Deaf-Blind Interpretation is a technique in which the client places his or her hands over the interpreter, in order to read signs through touch and movement.
